We meet at 6:30pm on the second Tuesday of each month at the
Farmington Community Library.

 Topics Include:

Michael W. Lucas talks FreeBSD (and whatever else he wants)

Over a quarter of the Internet's traffic at any one time is served by
FreeBSD. It supports many of the root nameservers that hold DNS
together, and appears in devices ranging from EMC storage towers to
the PlayStation 4. FreeBSD is royal blood Unix, with some components
dating back nearly forty years.

If FreeBSD is in all these places, how come we don't hear more about
it?

Tonight we're going to fix that.

Michael W Lucas, long-time sysadmin and author of the brand new third
edition of "Absolute FreeBSD," will be talking about FreeBSD's
philosophy, features, and performance. Why FreeBSD? Why not?

If time permits, he will also present a brief talk on troubleshooting
terribly obscure problems using lesser-known features of common Unix
tools.

Michael W. Lucas (MWL) is the author of over thirty books and has
been using Unix since the late 1980s. His most recent titles include
"Absolute FreeBSD 3rd ed.", "SSH Mastery, 2nd ed," "FreeBSD Mastery:
ZFS," and the novel "git commit murder." Five years ago, he talked to
us about OpenBSD and nearly separated poor Brian's shoulder. We make
no promises as to Brian's safety tonight. MWL's writing may be found
over at https://www.mwl.io

Plus we'll have our regular features: Jobs Looking for People, People
Looking for Jobs, and much more! We'll also be meeting for dinner at
the Buddy's Pizza in Novi (44225 W 12 Mile Road, Novi, MI 48377) after
the meeting.
